Putting My Skills To Good Use

Purpose

When people speak of finding purpose, we can have the expectation it has to be this huge revelation. That the whole world must know. Our purpose needs to be big. Our purpose needs to be seen and heard and felt for thousands of miles. However, that is not quite the case.

Sure, you could be one of those people meant to be in the public eye and globally known. That is fantastic! For those wishing for a more private life, that might not sound appealing. Maybe you haven’t found your calling just yet either. Where can you begin?

In my experience, the creative hobbies and career dreams you had as a child could lead you in the right direction. As a child, I wanted to be a musician (and often daydreamed about being on American Idol), a daytime journalist or news channel hostess, and at one point, a veterinarian. In high school, I threw those ideas out and decided to go after the title, “family therapist”.

What do those things have in common? Well, you need some thick skin (something I’m learning to develop on my writing journey), a willingness to learn, a passion for the field, and the ability to put all your skills to good use. Do you have any of those things already? If so, you’re good to go! If not, it’s not the end for you!

As you probably have figured out, I decided to go into writing and dedicate my existence to jotting down words, poems, and encouraging others. (I also love making music and hope to share more about that journey.) I didn’t exactly plan this outcome. I went to college mainly to help others and make some cash while doing it. Here I am using all those skills (I suppose the cash comes later! lol), even if one might judge me for my choice to leave my degree in it’s tubing instead of a frame. I could’ve become the therapist, and I very well could still become a therapist in the future! Life might jolt you around a few times before you understand your path.

When I first realized writing was my true purpose, I thought to myself, really? That’s it? Just write and study other things on the side? God laughed and said, “YES!” They also said, “For now ;)”

Your purpose doesn’t have to be extravagant, popular, the norm, or even have an official label. You will know when you find your purpose because it will spark you into action. Your purpose will have you spending hours on something without even realizing the time. Your purpose will fulfill you in ways unique to your soul.

I think the most important aspect of pursuing your purpose is making sure you take care of yourself. You will get so much further by being in a good state of mind, in better health, and being able to meet your own needs. I’ve come to the realization, God will not move you far until you are truly ready and able to handle the next set of challenges that come with a spiritual way of living. Health is wealth in my spiritual world. Something to keep in mind as you go about your day.

To live in your purpose and align with your own spiritual or career path can seem daunting in the beginning. Discovering what you might’ve been sent here to do can be frustrating, but it all boils down to curiosity and determination. What are you curious about learning today? What activities bring you happiness? Start there. Believe you will be shown the way as you take those first steps. Believe you are meant to be here.

Much love,

Angie
